Bom Futuro records its 40 years of history in Mato Grosso in the book “The Sky is the Limit”
The 40 years of history of Bom Futuro, celebrated in 2022, are now also immortalized in the book “The Sky is the Limit.” The journey of the pioneers in the agricultural sector in Mato Grosso is filled with challenges and triumphs. The Maggi Scheffer family faced adversities with great resilience and became the owners of one of the largest agribusiness companies in Brazil.
“The book aims to document in text and images the saga of brothers Erai, Elusmar, Fernando, and brother-in-law José Maria Bortoli in building Bom Futuro. Over these four decades, many people joined the team to help the company grow, without losing its family essence,” stated the shareholders in the book.
The book was written by journalist and author Martha Baptista, who condensed the events of the last 40 years into a 300-page work. According to her, despite having followed the sector for 20 years, she is always surprised by the life journey of these producers who left Southern Brazil without land or capital and, through hard work and great courage, pioneered the new agricultural frontier of the Midwest.
“In the case of Bom Futuro's shareholders, this story involves Northwestern Mato Grosso, which played a fundamental role in Bom Futuro's growth. The Maggi Scheffer brothers, along with their brother-in-law José Maria Bortoli, faced various adversities along with the first employees and managed to build one of the most solid agribusiness companies in the country, and perhaps in the world,” said Martha.
Recording the history of Bom Futuro is important to preserve the memory of decades of work in Mato Grosso. Generally, people see the success of some entrepreneurs and have no idea how much work and sacrifice were necessary to reach the top. The record serves to inform the public about the history and, thus, allow them to value it.
Through this book, the family also expresses gratitude to everyone who has been part of their journey of challenges and successes. “We want to thank everyone—men and women who are still with the company contributing to its success and those who have left us for various reasons. Thank you for all the moments you did not hesitate to share with us in this great adventure, sharing occasional moments of discouragement and frustration, and, most importantly, countless victories,” emphasized the shareholders.
This is the second book about the Maggi Scheffer family's journey. In 2018, the story of matriarch Luzia Maggi Scheffer was told in the book “The Legacy of a Warrior,” written by Ana Bustamante.
