Mato Grosso makes history once again with its participation in the 2024 WorldSkills.
Brazil concluded its participation in the 47th WorldSkills with eight medals, including one gold, four silver, and three bronze, in addition to 27 excellence medals that recognize above-average performance. The country finished in second place in the points ranking, behind China. This is the fourth time Mato Grosso has sent representatives to the WorldSkills.
Lorena Barcelos, 20 years old, a Future Apprentice at Bom Futuro and a student at Senai in Várzea Grande, made history by being the first Brazilian woman to participate in the world competition in the Heavy Vehicle Technology occupation. The young woman emphasizes that she thinks about the legacy her participation can leave for the future.
“I just want to be the first woman to represent Brazil in this category. I hope that with my participation I can inspire other young women to consider this career as well, and of course, to be at the next WorldSkills and bring a medal to Mato Grosso,” Lorena emphasizes.
The regional director of Senai MT, Carlos Braguini, highlights that the investments aim to enhance the quality of professional education offered by the institution and attract new generations to industrial careers.
“Beyond the results in medals and rankings, our main objective is to provide an excellent professional education that prepares young people for the challenges of the industry. These young people serve as inspiration for new generations and fill us with pride. We are committed to expanding and improving our participation in 2026 in China,” Braguini states.
We are very proud of Lorena for all her dedication and effort, as well as for representing our state and women so well. May her journey inspire future generations to believe in their dreams and conquer their spaces.
