Separô para Plantar,” by Bom Futuro, began in 2013 and has already planted more than six thousand trees across its facilities in the state.
Practical environmental education is one of the objectives of the “Separô para Plantar” project by Bom Futuro. Every two years, the company invites the children of employees to participate in a native seedling planting event at all its units and to discuss environmental preservation.
On Sunday, September 24, this year’s planting took place, involving over 900 trees that will bear the names of boys and girls and will be cared for with love and dedication. Since the project's inception in 2013, more than 6,000 seedlings have been planted in the company's units.
"When we started this activity, we understood that we needed to raise awareness among employees and families living on the farms about environmental issues. Thus, the idea of involving children in planting the seedlings emerged, so they could understand the importance of this and take that knowledge home, helping to promote environmental education," explains Elaine Lourenço, environmental manager at Bom Futuro.
It is said that during life, people need to "write a book, have a child, and plant a tree." Siblings Guilherme (11 years old) and Ana Gabriela da Silva Nogueira (9 years old) have already completed one of the tasks on the list: they planted a tree in 2019 at Bom Futuro's cotton processing facility in Campo Verde (MT).
They are part of a group of hundreds of children who have planted trees and left their names in nature through “Separô para Plantar.” To this day, they remember the planting moment: "I was very little, just five years old, but I remember it being fun to participate and then see the tree grow," shares Ana Gabriela.
Guilherme, who was seven, recalls the event in more detail. "I didn't find it hard to plant, but we had to dig the hole, place the tree in, and then cover it. I feel very proud to see my tree developing." Since the children live about 10 kilometers from the company, their father, Vagner Nogueira, shares updates about the plant.
My dad always sends photos, and we attend all the events at the cotton processing facility to 'visit' our tree," the children say. Their mother, Clenia da Silva Nogueira, feels proud: "It’s very beautiful to see this project and the involvement of the children and even the parents. Dad is there working and seeing that there's a tree planted by his children."
Preservation – Bom Futuro preserves over 288,000 hectares of legal reserve and permanent preservation areas, equivalent to two and a half times the size of São Paulo city. The areas are periodically monitored by qualified professionals to analyze and check for possible vegetation changes indicative of deforestation and wildfires.
