Games, gifts and a special breakfast marked a visit by Bom Futuro volunteers to the Mato Grosso Cancer Hospital (HCAN-MT) on Tuesday (20) in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso. Held as part of Children’s Day celebrations, the initiative provided moments of interaction and lightheartedness for young patients undergoing cancer treatment.
During the visit, volunteers took part in recreational activities with the children, spent time with them and handed out gifts. The initiative is part of the company’s volunteer program, which seeks to connect employees with institutions and communities through support and solidarity efforts.
For Raquel da Silva, an archivist at Bom Futuro, spending time with the children is a meaningful experience that changes the way she sees everyday life.
“Even though the children are going through difficult times and undergoing chemotherapy, you see how cheerful they are and how they play with you. Spending just one hour with them makes such a big difference. It makes us reflect on our own lives and the things we complain about every day,” she said.
She also explained that volunteering has contributed to both personal and professional growth. Previously shy, she has become more comfortable interacting with others and more attentive to different life circumstances. According to Raquel, the experience has helped her develop a more positive outlook on everyday challenges.
“I encourage people to get involved in volunteering because it changes the way you see people and look at life. After the first time, you want to keep participating and visit other institutions,” said Raquel, who has been a volunteer with the company for nearly two years.
According to Roselina Camarão, Bom Futuro’s Social Responsibility Coordinator, volunteering is a way to support institutions that play an important role in society.
“We believe it is important to support institutions that do such meaningful work for society, like the Mato Grosso Cancer Hospital. Through volunteering, our employees can contribute directly to these efforts, bringing comfort, care and moments of joy to children and families facing the challenges of cancer treatment,” she said.
The visit to HCAN-MT highlights the importance of volunteer initiatives that foster care and human connection, particularly for children and families navigating cancer treatment.
