On Sunday, April 4, Bom Futuro was awarded the Green Seal environmental certification for its five small hydroelectric plants (PCHs) in the Juruena Complex. This certificate confirms that the company operates based on sustainable policies and practices, making it the first PCH company to receive this seal in Mato Grosso.
“We take great pride in receiving this seal, as it recognizes Bom Futuro's 41 years of work in agriculture in Mato Grosso and now also highlights our reference in the hydroelectric sector in the state,” said Kleverson Scheffer, Director of Bom Futuro Energia.
The plants in the Juruena Complex are located along the Juruena River and sustainably generate 630,000 MWh of clean, renewable energy, contributing to Brazil's status as having one of the cleanest energy matrices in the world. In addition to these plants, Bom Futuro operates six more hydroelectric plants, all within the state of Mato Grosso.
“Bom Futuro has always been committed to going above and beyond what is mandatory, recognizing the importance of standardizing and maintaining the quality of our processes to a high level of excellence. This seal reflects the acknowledgment of a work that has been carried out for many years,” said Lívio Costa Recedive, Energy Operations Manager at Bom Futuro.
The Green Seal endorsement assures the market and society that the company's operations adhere to the standardization and quality criteria of this certification. Furthermore, Bom Futuro Energia holds the ISO 14001 certification, an international standard for environmental management systems (EMS).
By adopting certifications like the Green Seal and ISO 14001, organizations demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection, waste reduction, efficient use of natural resources, and pollution prevention.
Companies that received the Green Seal from Sema underwent an audit by state technicians who assessed their compliance with the criteria established by the Mato Grosso State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema-MT).
Currently, Bom Futuro Energia operates 11 plants and has also received a seal from the Chico Mendes Institute, a socio-environmental certification awarded to public and private institutions striving for sustainability in all their operations.
Additionally, it holds internationally recognized renewable energy certificates (I-REC), which certify that the electricity consumed by the company originates from renewable energy sources. Each MW corresponds to one REC, confirming that the energy used in their operations is clean and renewable and can offset the company's carbon emissions.
