Bom Futuro Begins Harvesting Second Crop Corn in Mato Grosso

19/06/2023

The corn harvest is underway at Bom Futuro, with over 89,900 hectares planted with second-crop corn. More than 17% of this area has already been harvested, and all regions have initiated the process.

The Matupá region currently leads in harvest progress, with 37.18% of the 30,726.70 hectares planted already collected. Next, Campo Verde follows with 11.58% of the 18,997 hectares cultivated. The Nova Mutum region is also making strides, having harvested 8.87% of its 17,099.48 hectares, while Sapezal has completed 2.45% of the 5,763 hectares planted. The Araguaia region is just beginning its harvest, with only 0.87% of the 17,360.50 hectares cultivated, according to the latest report.

As part of its crop rotation system, Bom Futuro invests in corn cultivation to enhance soil fertility. By alternating corn with other crops, such as soybeans, the nutrient cycle of the soil can be balanced. Additionally, corn improves soil structure due to its deep and fibrous root system.

Bom Futuro also cultivates 10,600 hectares of first-crop corn, which is used for animal feed. Of the total area cultivated with corn, reaching 100,600 hectares, 30% is intercropped with Brachiaria grass to facilitate temporary grazing for cattle.
