A group of 24 industrialists from eight Asian countries participated in the 2023 Buyers Mission organized by the Brazilian Cotton Producers Association (Abrapa) and the National Association of Cotton Exporters (Apex), visiting Bom Futuro on July 31 and August 1.
During their visit to the company’s units in Sapezal and Campo Verde, the entrepreneurs learned about Brazilian cotton production and processing, as well as the company’s socio-environmental projects. Bom Futuro cultivates nearly 159,000 hectares of cotton each harvest. The company’s director, Antônio Scheffer, emphasized the significance of the visit.
“With this event, our clients, the Asian industrialists, can see firsthand how we address production, environmental issues, and social responsibility, along with the traceability of the cotton, demonstrating the quality and production capacity Brazil has,” he stated.
Fernando Maggi Scheffer, president of Bom Futuro, highlighted the importance of showcasing Brazilian cotton production internationally. “We need to bring these people here to see what Mato Grosso, Bahia, and Brazil do differently regarding technology, quality, and traceability,” he remarked.
He noted that the market and business practices have changed significantly in the past 20 years since Bom Futuro began cotton cultivation. “In the past, we would load cotton onto trucks and sell it informally. Today, we sell future cotton, and Brazil has reached a level that allows us to host these missions so buyers can see everything we do sustainably across all aspects,” he added.
Erai Maggi Scheffer, a shareholder and president of the Mato Grosso Cotton Producers Association (Ampa), informed attendees that they would witness the transformation in cotton production over the past 20 years in the Cerrado region of Mato Grosso. “I am confident that all the entrepreneurs will leave Brazil with a new perspective on our production,” he emphasized.
Marcelo Duarte, Director of International Relations at Abrapa, revealed that all participants of the Buyers Mission are opinion leaders in their countries. “They are influential figures, and by understanding Brazilian cotton production, they can relay important information to other clients in their respective nations,” he explained.
